This Bible was published in 1850 (Click here to see the cover page). It appears to have first belonged to Cornelius W. Bodine, the son of Benjamin Bodine and Catherine Ent; however, that is only an educated guess.
Cornelius Bodine was born on July 19, 1823 in Stockton, Hunterdon County, New Jersey. I did have that he was born on July 10, but that may have been a misreading of his tombstone or something. I'm not sure where the date July 10 came from. Miriam Chapman Romine was born on October 25, 1834. Both Cornelius and Miriam are buried in the Sandy Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery in Hunterdon County, New Jersey. The original information and the images from this Bible came from Tracy St. Claire (aaf at ais.net). She is the owner of this Bible as of August 2003.
Tracy wrote this about the Bible:
- The Holy Bible Containing the Old and New Testaments, Hartford: S. Andrus and Son, 1850. Hills #1420.
- This Bible is in good condition. The binding is intact with cracks and chipping. The pages are all present with the marbled endpages. There seems to be some minor water damage, but altogether a clean copy. Some foxing. No hair, news clippings, etc that are sometimes found.
