Sources:
(1) The IGI gives date as Dec. 13, 1879. His tombstone says 1877. The 1887 bio of his father says David was born Dec. 13, 
1876. In 1900, his parents said he was born Dec 1876. In 1918, he said he was born 1877. And his death certificate says 
1879.  The two 1876 dates were given by his father. The best guess is that he was born Dec. 13, 
1876.
