Sources: (1) New York Wills (?) (2) His birth year comes from an abstract of this Francis Bridon's arrest record and sentence to becoming a galley slave. This is the first and only record I have seen of his birthdate. It comes from the Musée du Désert site in France. There must be a little more in the original record based on some other other abstracts I have seen of other galley slaves: BRIDON, François. Né vers 1652, matelot. De Rochefort (Soubise) (17780). Condamné à Calais pour exil, le 3 décembre 1686. Libéré à St Malo le 13 juin 1698. N° écrou : 9244. Translation: Francis Bridon. Born about 1652, sailor. From Rochefort (Soubise, France). Condemed at Calais for fleeing France, on December 3, 1686. Freed at Saint-Malo on June 13, 1698. His marriage record says he is from Moëze, France. See Notes. (3) On 1 Aug 1723, letters of administration were granted to his wife Susannah. Soon after, his will was discovered and submitted for probate. The will was written 16 Dec 1702, and therein he refers to himself as Francis Bridon, of Boston, in New England, mariner and leaves his estate to his wife Susannah Bridon, whom he appoints as executor. The will was proved 22 Oct 1723 in Boston [New York Will Book 9, p. 398, 412.]. I see something online, but I don't have access to it, that may say a Rev. Francis Bridon died on January 30, 1718. This is in some article in The Boston Transcript in Massachusetts Newspapers, 1704-1974. This needs more investigation. I can add from looking at the original, that those who signed appear to be J. Hain, F. Bridon (their fathers I assume) and probable sponsors Jean Billebaud and Jean Hain. The abstract says August 6, but the original is not clear. I cannot tell which date goes with what, but I will go with the abstract. (5) Date of death is uncertain. Date of "aft Mar 7, 1737" is the date she may have signed a deed with 2nd Jean (Richmond Co. Deeds, Book D, p. 131-134). See also NY Wills, 6, p. 88; 7, p. 147 and NY Wills 7, p. 312. Shemay have lived past March or May, 1736/37, a date when a Jean Bodine signed a deed with his wife "Hester." (6) Here is the information Pierre found with an interpretation of the French along with a translation into English. And now in English: May 12th, 1680 Were married Jean Bodin and Ester Bridon said Bodin from Lower Moeze and said Bridon with the consent of their father & mother & their relatives & friends who signed with the spouses. Signed Jean Bodin Ester Bridon, J. Hain de Billebaud, Jean Bouquet. And here is the abstract made by the Genealogical Circle of Saintonge: Annee: 1680; Source: NV3; Code commune: 17429P; Commune: SOUBISE Prot Code dpt: 17 Département: Charente-Maritime; Acte: M; Date: 12/05/1680; Nom époux: BODIN; Prénoms époux: Jean; Lieu d'origine époux: SOUBISE Prot (17); Nom épouse: BREDON; Prénoms épouse: Esther; Lieu d'origine épouse: SOUBISE Prot (17); N° d'enreg.: 584093; Abstract by CG Saintonge. In August of 2024, we were very happy to find out that academic genealogical researcher, Pierre GENDREAU-HÉTU, had combed diligently through the Protestant Soubise Registers and had come upon what has to be the marriage record of Jean Bodin and Esther Bridon. The Genealogical Circle of Saintonge had also previously done an abstract of this that was online. They helped clarify some of the more difficult-to-read old French writing. (7) Denis and Susanne Riché were the godparents of Marie Riché whose birth is marked in the records of the French Church of New York on May 3, 1719. She was then the godparent of Susanne Riché on Dec. 4, 1721 in those same records. Dave's Bodine Genealogy Website Email me with Revisions. Pictures welcome if under 1 MB.
