Notes for: John Bodine, Rev.
A transcription of the Methodist Cemetery in Pemberton, NJ says he died at age 72 yrs 5 mos & 10 dys on May 2, 1848. That would make his birth date Nov. 16, 1775. Maybe that was a misreading of his stone.
From Ronny Bodine:
New Mills (Pemberton) Circuit Records 1787-1815 (Genealogical Magazine of New Jersey, vol. 73, 1998, p. 51)
29 March 1799--Was joined together in holy Matrimony John Bodine of the County of Burlington in the State of New Jersey and Mary Fort of the same place by Zenas Conger, Deacon.
Rev. John Bodine was a trustee of Pemberton Methodist Episcopal Church, 1803-1820, and a member of the Council of the Borough of Pemberton, 1835-1836. In a deed of 28 March 1808 John Bodine's occupation is given as hatter (Burlington Co. deeds, U: 89). Benajah Antrim was appointed administrator of his estate on 23 May 1848. On 18 Sept 1851, Charles Bodine submitted a petition to the Orphans Court of Burlington County to equally divide the real estate among the surviving heirs of John Bodine--Eliza Antrim, wife of Benajah Antrim, Charles Bodine, the petitioner, Margaret Bodine, John F. Bodine, Andrew Bodine and Mary H. Bodine, and Margaret Bodine and Mary Bodine, minor children of Barton Bodine, decd., a son of John Bodine. The court directed the real estate be sold and divided among the heirs. On 20 Dec 1851, the property was sold to the highest bidders--a house and lot in Pemberton Village to Benajah Antrim for $685, and a lot in Pemberton Village to Ezekiel Malsburg for $157.00. (Burlington Co. Miscellaneous Old Records, File B-7). John and Mary Bodine were buried in Pemberton Methodist Episcopal Church Cemetery.
The date of death for Mary Fort is cited as 8 Nov 1853 by Mary Elizabeth Sinnott in her "Annals..." p. 170 and in "Genealogical and memorial history of the state of New Jersey : a book of the achievements of her people in the making of a commonwealth and the founding of a nation," New York: Lewis Historical Publishing Co., 1910.,p. 1369. But, the date of 29 Nov 1853 is supposedly inscribed on her gravestone.
