Obituary, Monitor-Index and Democrat (Moberly, Mo.) of 10 Feb 1932.
PARIS, Mo., Feb. 10 (Monitor-Index Special Service) Miss Pattie Bodine, 68, sister of Tom Bodine, editor of the Paris Mercury, died suddenly at her home at Paris at 3 o'clock this morning. Death was attributed to a severe cold which weakened her heart. Miss Bodine's sister, Miss Glendora Bodine, is critically ill of influenza and is not expected to live. Miss Pattie Bodine had been ill but about three days, and her sister has been ill about the same period. It was thought that Miss Glendora was the more seriously ill of the two sisters. Miss Pattie Bodine had for many years been a leader in cultural literary, church and music circles in Paris and Monroe county, as is her sister. At one time she possessed one of the finest soprano voices in the state. She had a wide acquaintance among noted musicians and artists of the county. The older generation, in Moberly will remember Miss Bodine from the many appearances she made as guest artist at various musical events, particularly the old Goetze Saengerfests. Miss Bodine was a member of the Paris quartet that was featured at the first Saengerfest in Moberly some 35 years ago. She was also instrumental in the establishment of a branch of the Goetze Conservatory in Paris several years ago. Prof. Goetze always called "Pat" his "boss" when in Paris in the interest of music. She always arranged and attended to details of his engagements here. Miss Bodine for years had also been a beloved leader of Paris young folk, especially in the Christian church of which she was a member. The Bodine home at Paris, a veritable museum of good books and music, was frequented by Paris young people who were always assured of a hearty welcome. Miss Bodine was also a leader in the Women's Council of the Christian church and in Paris women's club circles. She was credited with having done more in furthering the knowledge of music and literature in Paris than any other woman. Her sister was associated with her in this work. She had always been an inveterate reader and was an authority on good books. She was a graduate of Christian College at Columbia. She also was as active as her health permitted in the Monroe County Centennial celebrated last summer. Besides her brother and sister Miss Bodine is survived by a number of cousins, including Mrs. Betty Flander and Mrs. Clara Bodine Stavely, both of Paris, and Lieutenant-Colonel Nall Bodine, graduate of West Point and now with the United States Army. She was the daughter of the late Martin F. and Melissa Davis Bodine. Funeral services will be held from the Paris Christian Church tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock. The services will be in charge of the pastor, the Rev. A. R. McQueen. Burial will be In the Bodine family lot in Walnut Grove Cemetery at Paris.
