Notes for: Martin Stapleton Bodine, Sr.
Dr. Martin Bodine studied medicine at the University of Louisville under his cousin, Dr. James Morrison Bodine. Afterwards, he interned in New York City and continued his studies there. Besides practicing medicine, he owned a men's clothing store in Paris, Missouri. In about 1929, he became Assistant Medical Director of the Kansas City Life Insurance Company. He retired in 1941 and moved to Jefferson City.
He was listed as Stapleton Bodine in the 1880 Census of Montgomery Co., MO.

Dr. Martin Stapleton Bodine, 75, of 732 Clark ave., for many years assistant medical director of the Kansas City Life Insurance company in Kansas City, Mo., died Friday afternoon after a brief illness. Dr. Bodine was born Feb. 27, 1876 at Montgomery City, the son of Dr. John Rector Bodine and Frances Bethel Bodine. In his youth he moved to Paris, Mo., where he spent much of his life. He received the degree of Doctor of Medicine at the University of Louisville and later interned in New York City. He returned to Paris where he practiced medicine and operated a clothing store before joining the medical staff of the insurance company. Dr. Bodine lived in Kansas City about 18 years. Retiring in 1948, he moved to Jefferson City and had resided here since. He died at St. Mary's hospital. He is survived by his widow, Frances Graves Bodine; a son, Martin Stapleton Bodine, Jr., 930 Moreau drive; a daughter, Mrs. R. Lawrence Piper, Indianapolis, Ind.; one sister, Mrs. Paul Brace, Tulsa, formerly of Jefferson City, and three grandchildren.
