Obituary, The Independent-Record (Helena, MT) of Sunday, 1 July 1917.
Charles Bodine, aged 87 years and for 15 years a resident of Montana, where he was engaged in mining the greater part of the time, died yesterday at a local hospital. He was widely known among the older mining men in Montana and was interested in mines in many of the early-day camps of Montana. Death was due to the infirmities of old age. Burial will be in Forestvale cemetery. Mr. Bodine came to Montana in the early sixties, the same year as the late J. B. Sanford, with whom he worked in the placer diggings. Bodine had many friends among the older people of Helena by whom he was well liked. He is survived by two sisters and a half sister, all living in Missouri. A few years ago he visited his sisters, whom he had not seen since coming to Helena, but the call of the west was too much for him and he came back to Montana to spend his remaining years. The funeral services will be held in the chapel of Herman & Co. at 2 p.m. Monday. Ensign Chesham of the Salvation Army will have charge of the services.
