Nathan Leroy Kerby, 92, of Cedarville died Saturday, Feb. 18, 2012, at a local nursing home. He was retired homebuilder, World War II veteran of the Army Air Corps and former fire chief for the District 5 Rural Fire Department. Graveside service with firefighter honors was Feb. 21 at the Gracelawn Cemetery under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren. He is survived his wife, Gwendolyn; one daughter, Shareen Hobbs of Dora; two sons, Terry Kerby of Van Buren and Alan Kerby of Henrietta, Okla.; two sisters, Norma Holiday of Farmington, Mich., and Donna Bowman of Westland, Mich.; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to the Butterfield District 5 VFD, P.O. Box 438, Uniontown, AR 72955.

Gwendolyn Kerby of Van Buren passed away on Friday, May 13, 2016, at the age of 93. She was born April 6, 1923, in Van Buren to the late W.L. and Frances Bodine. While living in Michigan, she met and married Nathan Kerby, who just happened to be working for her carpenter father. They were married for 71 years when Nathan passed away. She will be remembered for her gift of hospitality, always ready to fix a meal. Thanksgiving was the highlight of the year. She was an avid gardener, seamstress and artist, she loved competing, and winning blue ribbons at the Crawford County Fair. She was preceded in death by her husband Nathan, and their beloved little daughter, Ramona. She is survived by her daughter, Shareen Hobbs and husband Stephen of Van Buren; two sons, Alan Kerby of Henryetta, Okla., and Terry Kerby and his wife Phyllis of Van Buren; six grandchildren, Michael Kerby and wife Priti of Houston, Texas, Mark Kerby and wife Natalie of Henryetta, Okla., Sage Hobbs and wife Naomi of Rincon, Puerto Rico, Amanda Harrison and husband Jeremy of Fort Smith, Eric Hobbs and wife Laura of Boulder, Colo., and Rebekah Bailey and husband Matt of Henryetta, Okla.; and 10 great-grandchildren. A private graveside service will be held at a later date.
