With regard to the dob for his wife Gertrude, the SSN DBI gives the date as 26 Oct 1894. Also, the 1900 census for Lawrence Township, Mercer County, NJ gives her dob as Oct 1894. I haven't seen her tombstone so cannot make a comparison, but based on the evidence I would stick with 26 Oct 1894.
