John Henry Owsley, born 24 October 1812 in Hardin County, Kentucky; died December 1884 in Clark County, Missouri. He married Amanda Melvina Francis 19 December 1833 in Marion County, Missouri; born 20 May 1818 in Jessamine County, Kentucky; died March 1883 in Clark County, Missouri.

John Owsley died in Clark County, Missouri and was buried near his wife in a private family cemetery. By 1947, this cemetery was a cow pasture with all gravestones removed. The family was living in Lewis County, Missouri from 1840 to 1870 and in 1880 was living in Clark County with the family of their son-in-law and daughter, George and Mary Riney. His wife, Amanda, was the daughter of Thomas and Penelope (Payne) Francis. John and Amanda Owsley left a very detailed family Bible record in which were recorded all the births of their children and many grandchildren.
