Obituary, Bureau County Tribune (Princeton, IL) of Friday, 4 March 1904.
Nelson W. Bodine was born in New York, Nov. 27, 1830, and died Feb. 9, 1904, at the age of 73 years, 2 months and 12 days. Deceased was stricken with paralysis about the 1st of October,1903 and after weeks of suffering passed quietly away. He never recovered the use of his limbs nor was he able to speak but a few words intelligibly to those who cared for him. Coming to Bureau county in 1869 he made his home with the family of Frank Ganahl for several years, after which he removed to a piece of land which he had purchased near by. Age and failing health made it impossible for him to thus live alone and a little less than two years ago he became a member of the family of Andrew Durfee. Mr. Bodine was a very quiet and unobtrusive man, speaking ill of no one and was always spoken of as a friend by all who knew him. Being fond of children he was beloved by all the little children in the neighborhood. Although he belonged to no church he was a christian and during his illness often expressed in disjointed sentences an earnest desire to be relieved from his suffering and taken to the home of his maker. He was ready when the summons came and very quietly and peacefully fell asleep in Jesus.
