Notes for: James Daniel Bodine
He was the son that was too young to go to off to the Civil War; so many of the family responsibilities fell upon him in his early life. One brother was was severely wounded at Jonesboro and another was killed there. The only other brother was much younger. From the time he was married, life proved to be a disaster for James. The family farm was lost soon afterwards and from that point forward, it appears that everything went downhill. He never again owned property and must have worked as a sharecropper.
From Ronny Bodine:
James Bodine lived with his family 1900 in San Augustine County reporting that in 17 years of marriage the couple had had 8 children of who 5 survived. Living 1910 in Nacogdoches County, by that time 10 children had been born and 7 were then living. The family engaged in farming. Sarah was the daughter of Benjamin L. and Annie E. (Eppes) Lawless.
