Notes for: Winnie Jane Bodine
The information about Winnie Jane is scant. She was the youngest child of John and Nancy Bodine of early San Augustine County. The available data indicate that she must have died shortly after the birth of her first child. The 1850 San Augustine Census shows Fed and the child in the household of J. J. Sanders, his father.
From Ronny Bodine:
It appears that Winnie Saunders must have died shortly after the birth of her first child. After the death of his first wife, Winnie, he and his daughter lived in the home of his father, J. J. Saunders, until his marriage to Louisa C. Ware on June 11, 1853. At the time of the 1850 census of San Augustine County, the daughter, Sarah, age 13, was still enumerated in the home of J. J. Saunders. Fredrick ("Fed") was later to become the administrator of the estate of Nancy Bodine at the time of her death in April of 1863. Fed purchased the homestead in 1871 and later deeded an acre for the Saunders Cemetery. Fred and his wife and some of their 12 children rest there.
Children: Sarah Jane (c1845).
