Notes for: William B. (Bailey?) Bodine
The following paragraph is the information I started with on this William Bodine. He was listed as a son of John Bodine and Sarah Bailey, and as a grandson of Cornelius Bodine and Mary.
William B. Bodine, b. 19 Mar. 1804, Logan Co., Ky., d. 5 Oct. 1879, m. 24 May 1827, Cooper Co., Mo., Polly (Mary Ann) Bigham, b. ca. 1811. It has not yet been proved that this is the son of John Bodine, but circumstantial evidence indicates that he was. William B. Bodine lived in Boonville, Mo. in 1833 (old letter). History of Hickory Co., Mo., by Ihrig: Land entry 7 Dec. 1838, Wm. B. Bodine - T36, R23. Missouri Miscellany by Woodroff, Vol. 3, p. 47. Hickory Co., Mo., Administration and Guardian Bonds, 1846-1866: Bodine, Wm. deceased. Mary Ann Bodine appointed guardian of Charles C. Bodine, Sarah J. Bodine and Mary F. Bodine, minor heirs of decd., May 4, 1877.
Later on, I received information from a Jill McCracken putting the death date in the above information in doubt.
Notes on a paper in a family Bible once owned by J.C. and Mary Frances (Bodine) McCracken give his birth date as March 23, 1804 and his death date as August 4, 1841. The full names of the three Bodine children are also given on this paper. William's death date can supposedly be confirmed by Hickory County Administration Book A, pp. 56 and 76. Here is the info from one of the pieces of paper found in the McCracken Bible. It appears to be written in Mary Frances Bodine's hand:

Jill Holder McCracken (jmc at microcore.net) has this Bible now. She told me that this line of Bodines pronounces the name with a long I, instead of E.
Jill says William is buried in the "Ben Scott" Cemetery in Hickory County between Weaubleau and Quincy. Jill has a photocopy of the page of the Hickory County Cemetery Directory that was made several years ago. It says, "Located on the James Foster place northeast on 234 Loop east of Weaubleau away out in the pasture near some big trees. We could drive almost to the cemetery, but had to roll under a wire fence. Some of the stones had fallen over, but here are the names listed on the ones we could read. T36N, R23 W, Sec 4." The readings were done by Nanny Jinkens and Carrie Mabry. (This index was published in 1990, but Jill said that Nanny Jinkins had been reading stones for years before that.)
Here are some of the pertinent stones they read:
ESTES, Mary Ann 9/10/1810--2/---/1878
BODINE, Wm. 3/28/1801--8/4/1841 or 46 (court records verify '41 - Jill)
SCOTT, Ceborn 7/22/1871? - 3/30/1872 or 78 (not sure of figures)
Lamb on stone (illegible) C.S. on footstone
ESTES, Elisha 7/15/1821 - 7/18/1871 (An Estes researcher says this should be 1825--thinks he "fudged" because he was 15 years younger than Mary) Husband of Mary Ann (Bodine) Estes Two infants buried here.
Jill wrote that a Ralph Hutton says that the Halberts buried their slaves in the Ben Scott Cemetery. (She knows of Ralph Hutton, but not the Halberts.) She guesses that the Scott child is a grandson, probably son of Benola. Jill said it's been family tradition that Mary Ann was buried with both her husbands.
Jill also has heard that this William is the son of John Bodine and Sarah Bailey. And that John was the son of a Cornelius who was the son of Jacob. She got this information from a Louise somebody, but Jill didn't have any proofs of the relationship. At this point, I'd say that more proof is needed to show who was really the son of whom and who both of these William's are. This William died on August 4, 1841, but the other William, the one discussed partially above, died on October 5, 1879. Maybe this death date is incorrect since I don't have a reference for it. If only the death date of October 5, 1879 is incorrect, then that would resolve this problem. The birth dates for these two Williams were not far off. I don't see them as being a big problem. Anyway, all this needs further checking.
