Notes for: James Robert Vander Waal
His birth was announced in the Pella Blade of June 26, 1894:
"Dr. Will Allen informed us yesterday that a bright young son came that morning to the home of Mr. and Mrs. van der Waal, who reside a few miles east of this city. All good things seem to come together these days."
His obituary is in the Pella Chronicle of March 12, 1980:
James R. Vander Waal, 85, died Feb. 29, at Pella Community Hospital.
He was born southeast of Pella June 25, 1894 to Antonie and Dirkje Van Zante Vander Waal. Suring World War I he served six months in France with Battery E Field Artillery.
He married Christine E. Ter Louw Jan. 29, 1920. They farmed near Kirkville from 1920 to 1930, then farmed near Pella for the next 28 years.
He was a Sunday School teacher at First Reformed Church. He also was president of the Farmers' Cooperative Exhange and was a member and chaplain of American Legion Post 89. He was active in Third Reformed and Trinity Reformed churches as a consistory member.
He lived at Pella Nursing Home since January 1978.
Surviving are three children, five grandchildren, two brothers, and a sister...
He was preceded in death by his wife, brothers William, Dielis and Marvin and a sister Mintie.
Services were held March 3 at Trinity Reformed Church. Burial was at Oakwood Cemetery. Garden Chapel Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
