Notes for: Arie Vander Waal
The name on their tombstone is Vander Waal.
The Pella Blade of March 17 1891 says Arie van der Waal, Jr. bought 240 acres of land from Silas Perry and wife in Summit Township for $9600.
He, his wife and three kids are in the 1895 Iowa State Census of Summit Township in Marion County. All were born in Marion County.
He is in the Pella Blade of July 6, 1897 where it says he died on Sunday at about 2 PM while bathing in a pond on his farm near Monroe, Iowa. The funeral was "probably" to be held July 6. And the Pella Blade of August 10, 1897 says he drowned on July 4, 1897. They had a $10,000 life insurance policy that the family was able to claim.
1900 US Census, Fairview Twp., Jasper Co., IA
They are mistakenly transcribed as Vunderwaal. The four children are listed: Marie, Morton W., Roy D., and Johannah. Mary C. has a birth date of Feb 1865. The others match up. Arie was decesased by this time.
The inventory of his estate is in the Marion County Probate Records, Book #31, pp. 136-142. They owned quite a bit of livestock, a lot of growing corn, wheat, potatoes, and hay, two carriages, and a lot of feed. It was about $4000 and also a $10,000 life insurance policy they had collected.
Here are the places from the Index of Marion County Probate Records which refer to this Arie's probates: Book #28: pp. 619, 638; Book #29: p. 139; and Book #31, p. 135. Something related to this Arie might be found in Book #19, p. 525 but I did not see that listed in the LDS films. Maybe it was lost or I just missed it.
