Francis T. "Bud" Monser, 81, of Oneonta, passed away on Saturday, September 13, 2008 at his residence. Bud was born on February 14, 1927 in Oneonta, the son of Francis and Shelby (Nader) Monser. He married Myrna J. Clapper on April 17, 1980 in Tampa , Florida. Bud worked on the highway maintenance crew before working on the bridge crew for the NY State Department of Transportation, retiring in 1989. Prior to that, he worked for the ECD Bendix Company for 16 years. In high school and later years, he worked for Tire and Auto in Oneonta, the D & H Railroad and was a driveway mechanic working on many friends and neighbors cars. He was a member of the 6th Ward Athletic Club in Oneonta, the NRA, the World Wildlife Federation and many other organizations that dealt with conservation. He was an avid hunter who loved the great outdoors. He enjoyed his birds and reading. He especially enjoyed talking on the phone. Bud is survived by his wife, Myrna J. Monser of Oneonta; his children, Peter Monser and his wife, Karla of Hartwick, Peter Bice and his wife, Cheryl of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Brenda Lenz and her husband, Nils of Zephyr Hills, Florida and the many foster children he cared for including Peggy Ryan, Donna Lee and Sandy Newkirk. He is also survived by his sisters, Madelyn Danzi of Oneonta, Sister Marie Denise of Oneonta and Katherine Kaufman of Delhi; his grandchildren, John and Katherine Monser, Miryah and Andrew Bice and Nicholas, Alexander and Cassandra Lenz; his great grandchildren, Jacob Monser, Emmalise and Aden Bice as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. Bud was predeceased by his parents; his sisters, Marion Barton and Pauline Colone; his brother, Thomas Monser; his grandson, Robert Monser and a foster child, Sharon Wayman. There will by no calling hours or services at this time. Bud will be missed by his family, friends and all who knew him especially his "phone friends".
