William Simon Manley, born in 1814, son of James Manley Jr. and Elizabeth Reid. He served with Company F, 2nd Battalion, Kentucky Mounted Rifles.He served under Lt. Colonel Ezekiel F. Clay, he was mustered into the service in September of 1862 and was discharged in 1864. William had previously served in the Mexican War as a private in Captain James Ewing's Company, 3rd Regiment of Kentucky Volunteers. He enlisted in this War on September 19, 1847 and was discharged July 24, 1848 at Louisville,Kentucky. He lived out the balance of his life in Franklin County, Kentucky and died near Peaks Mills, Kentucky on April 7, 1885.
2nd Battalion, Kentucky Mounted Rifles
Completed its organization during the late fall of 1862. the unit was attached to the dept. of East Tennessee, then the Dept. of Western Virginia and East Tennessee. It skirmished in various conflicts in the mountainous region of Kentucky, Tennessee and Virginia. Early in 1865 it disbanded. The field officers were Lt. Col. Thomas Johnson and Major O.S.Tenney.

I had an email from my cousin Barb Hernden in Michigan and she told me that your wife is a direct descendant of William Simon Manley. I too am a direct descendant of William Simon as is Barbara.
