Notes for: Wilson Bodine

Probable son of Francis Bodine and Rachel Wilson. See Ronny's notes below. This needs further verification.

From Ronny Bodine:

Wilson Bodine is a probable son of Francis and Rachel (Wilson) Bodine based upon his unusual name, bearing the surname of his mother as his first name. He served as a Private in Captain James Moore's Company, 2nd Battalion (Lt.Col. Vandike's) New Jersey Militia, 1777-1780 and as a Sergeant in the 1st U.S. Regiment under Lt.Col. Harmer, enlisted 1 Jan 1790 and reenlisted 10 Nov 1790.

From May to Oct 1799 he appears on a roster of non-commissioned officers assigned to Fort Wilson, Loftus Heights, Wilkinson County, Mississippi.

From General James Wilkinson's Order Book, 1796-1808. [Gen. Wilkinson was Commanding General of the U.S. Army during this period.]
On 5 May 1806, it was recorded that Lt. Thomas A. Smith of the Regiment of Artillerists was arraigned on the charge of unofficerlike and contemptuous conduct towards his commanding officer, Major M. Porter, by countermanding his (Major Porter) orders which were given to Sergeant Wilson Bodine in January last to remove a public canoe from the Rapids on Red River to Natchitoches and which Lt. Smith directed Sergeant Bodine to instead abandon the canoe.
