Gordon W. Bordine, 71, died Sept. 30, 1998, at Providence Alaska Medical Center. A celebration of his life will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Joy Lutheran Church in Eagle River with the Rev. Martin Eldred officiating. Mr. Bordine was born Aug. 26, 1927, in Detroit, to John and Alice Bordine. He graduated from Cass Technical High School in Detroit. He served in the U.S. Army Occupational Forces in Germany following World War II, where he worked for the Stars and Stripes newspaper. In 1947, after his military service, Mr. Bordine moved to Ketchikan, where he worked for ''The Alaskan Sportsman'' (Alaska Magazine) and Lind Printing. He married Doris Tobin in Ketchikan in 1951. Mr. Bordine graduated from Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, and Luther Seminary in St. Paul, Minn. He served Lutheran churches in Minnesota before moving back to Alaska in 1975 to serve the Lutheran Church in Soldotna. He retired from the ministry in 1979. He and his wife owned and operated Eagle River Printing in Eagle River from 1979 to 1997. Recently, he was the interim pastor at the Shishmaref and Nome Lutheran churches. Mr. Bordine loved the Alaska outdoors and enjoyed exploring it from top to bottom, his family said. He was a member of Joy Lutheran Church in Eagle River, member and past president of the Eagle River Area Rotary Club, former chairman of Lutheran Social Services of Alaska, and a Lutheran Marriage Encounter presenter. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Doris Bordine, daughter, Janet Boyer, both of Eagle River; daughter, Carol Stoltz of Wooden, Wash.; son, Norman of Vancouver, Wash.; brother, Keith of Hubbard Lake, Mich.; and grandchildren, Jason, Alicia and Ethan Bordine, Todd and Aaron Boyer, and Hans and Emma Stoltz. He was preceded in death by his parents. In lieu of flowers, the family reguests that donations be made to the Joy Lutheran Building Fund, 10111 E. Eagle River Loop Road, Eagle River 99577; or Rotary Foundation, P.O. Box 71169, Chicago, 60694-1169. Arrangements were by Anchorage Funeral Home.
