Notes for: Mary Ann Bodine

Jesse Tyson, age 30, born in Penn., carpenter, lived 1860 in Philadelphia. Although he was married, his wife was not living with him, and he was one of several persons living with John and Elizabeth Zinzer.

Jesse Tyson enlisted as a Private in Company I, 88th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteers and was killed at the Battle of Antietam 17 Sept 1862. His widow, Mary Ann Tyson, nee Bodine, under the Act of 14 July 1862, applied for a widow's pension and provided evidence showing her marriage on 15 Sept 1856 in Philadelphia by Rev. B. Griffith and that she bore one child, Laura M. Tyson, on 14 Sept 1857. Her claim was approved 19 Sept 1863 to be effective 17 Sept 1862 at the rate of $8 per month, plus $2.00 per month for their daughter until she reached the age of 16. On 24 Sept 1866, Elizabeth Bodine of 614 Tamarind St., Philadelphia, gave a deposition in support of the continuing pension for Mary Ann Tyson.

From The Philadelphia Inquirer of 10 Oct 1862:
Jesse Tyson, of Company I, 88th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteers, was killed at the Battle of Antietam on 17 Sept 1862.

The 1879 Philadelphia City Directory lists Mary A. Tyson, widow of Jesse, residing at 1612 N. 6th.

Mary Ann Tyson, of 1612 North 6th Street, died 30 Jan1886 aged 53 and was buried 4 Feb 1886 in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Philadelphia.
