Obituary, Legacy.com on 2 Oct 2023.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Kevin Bodine on August 25th, 2023, at his home in Phoenix, Arizona. Born on October 4, 1964, in Princeton, New Jersey, Kevin was the beloved son of the late Ralph Bodine and Linda Kondora. He grew up in the warm embrace of Phoenix, alongside his cherished sisters, Carrie Ybarra and Lisa Mercado. Kevin was a proud and loving father to his two remarkable children, Kyle and Kelly Bodine.
Kevin's educational journey began at Brophy Prep High School, and he continued to pursue knowledge at the University of Arizona.
He is survived by his two adoring children, Kyle and Kelly Bodine, his sisters, Carrie "Care Bear" Ybarra and Lisa Mercado, Amy Hatch and Sarah Bodine, step-mother Linda Bodine, and brother Arthur Bodine. Kevin also leaves behind brothers-in-law, Kyle Ybarra, Favian Mercado, Taylor Mathews, and Matt Hatch, as well as his best friend, Bruce St. James, and the love of his life, Heli Nielson. He will be deeply missed by his nieces, Jessie Ybarra, Taylor Ybarra, Olivia Mercado, Maya Mercado, Lexie Mercado, Aurelia Mathews, and Cielle Mathews, along with nephews, Jake Timberlake, Jaxton Mathews, and Bowen Hatch. Kevin's incredible journey was further enriched by his amazing sponsors, Richie and Terry, and his dear U of A Pike brothers.
Kevin had an insatiable passion for music and sports, coupled with an encyclopedic knowledge of a wide variety of subjects. During his time at the University of Arizona, he found his calling in radio, becoming a DJ at 1330AM KHYT, "K-Hit" radio, where he forged a lifelong friendship with Bruce St. James, his fellow DJ. He served as the President of his fraternity, Pi Kappa Alpha, cultivating bonds of brotherhood that would last a lifetime. Kevin's career eventually led him to the tech and telecom industry, where he thrived for 25 years.
His trusty Jeep Wrangler was his favorite companion, taking him on off-road adventures through the scenic landscapes of Saguaro Lake and the hills of Sedona to catch breathtaking sunsets. Within the family, he was affectionately known as "Boy." His greatest joy was sharing precious moments with his children, especially watching his favorite basketball team, the Phoenix Suns. One of his most unforgettable experiences was a fishing expedition in Guatemala with Jamin Carnahan and Bruce St. James, where they caught and released 89 sailfish and 3 marlin, though the same could not be said for the Mahi Mahi they caught. "They were delicious," Kevin admitted with a grin.
Kevin prioritized faith, family, and the meaningful relationships in his life. His untimely departure leaves a void that can never be filled. His radiant smile, profound intellect, infectious energy, wicked sense of humor, and compassionate spirit will forever remain etched in our hearts.
A celebration of Kevin's remarkable life will be held at Brophy Chapel on October 21st at 11am at 4701 N. Central Avenue, Phoenix, AZ 85012, followed by a reception at the Anderson Hall at St. Francis Xavier.
