It is with much regret that we are called upon to record the sudden death of a most estimable citizen, and friend, Arthur J. Pickering, who departed this life Thursday morning, July 14th at ten minutes past ten o'clock, in the 37th year of his age. He moved from Wabash county, Indiana to Cowley county in the fall of 1872, and has ever since remained in this neighborhood; being the postmaster at old Lazette for a number of years, and was acting in that capacity in Cambridge up to the time of his death. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge. [The obituary was very lengthy and described in detail that he accidentally shot himself in the left hand with a toy pistol and ultimately died from lock-jaw superinduced by the wound.]
