Ruth Emelia Bodin, age 84, of Waverly died peacefully Saturday morning, Nov. 1, at the Ebenezer Covenant Home in Buffalo. She was born in Marysville Township, June 15, 1913 the daughter of Charles W. and Selma D. Swenson Bodin. Ruth was baptized on September 7, 1913 at Swedesburg Lutheran Church in rural Waverly. She was also instructed in the Lutheran Catechism and confirmed in the Christian faith at Carlslund Lutheran Church in rural Buffalo on Aug. 5, 1928. Ruth was faithful to the promises she made at her confirmation all her life, and died a life-member of Zion Lutheran Church. Ruth Bodin was a nurse, a homemaker, and above all else, a sister and an aunt. Following the death of her mother, Ruth thoroughly enjoyed a trip to the state of Oregon with her cousin, Alice Anderson. She lived her entire life on her family's homestead in rural Waverly. She is survived: her brothers, Reuben B. Bodin and Edwin A. Bodin, both of Waverly; sister-in-law, Fern N. Bodin of Buffalo. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, and cousins. Ruth was preceded in death by her mother in 1955 and her father in 1958; nephew, Daniel Bodin, who was killed in action in Viet Nam in 1968; brothers, Walter Bodin in 1983, Lt. Col. Harold Bodine in 1993, and Clarence Bodin in 1995; her sisters-in-law, Harriet Bodin in 1974 and Sally Bodine in 1994. Funeral services for Ruth were held Monday, Nov. 3 at 2 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Buffalo. The Rev. Edward A. Blair officiated and interment followed at Swedesburg Lutheran Cemetery in rural Waverly. Friends called at the church on Monday, Nov. 3 from noon until the time of service. Marlene Wolff was the service's organist. David Wright was the vocalist, and sang "Rock of Ages." "Blest Be the Tie that Binds" was sung as a congregational hymn.
Gary Anderson, Willie Bauernschmitt, Tom Fitzpatrick, Bob Bodin, Alvin Bodin, Jack Bodin, Lloyd Rassat, and Daniel Chilson served as casket bearers. The Peterson Chapel in Buffalo served the family.
