EATONTOWN -- Oscar Bodine, 77, of 26 Barker Ave., died yesterday at Riverview Hospital, Red Bank.

He was born in Sweden, the son of the late Carl and Clara Bodine. He had lived in Eatontown the past five years and was a member of the Presbyterian Church. A retired carpenter, he was also a member of the local carpenters union of Elizabeth.

Mr. Bodine is survived by his wife, Charlotte Bodine; a son, John Bodine of Eatontown; a sister, Miss Charlotte Bodine of New York City, and two grandchildren.

The funeral will be Monday at 11 a.m. at the Woolley Funeral Home, Long Branch. Interment will be in Woodbine Cemetery, Oceanport.

Oscar Bodine immigrated to America in 1907 and lived with his family 1920 in Brooklyn, New York City working as a shipyard carpenter and 1930 in Jersey City, Hudson County, New Jersey where he worked as a building carpenter.

1940 Jersey City, Hudson Co., NJ:
Oscar BODINE 50 Sweden, Charlotte 49 wife. Irnar 22 son, Richard 10 NJ son.

In 1942 he registered for the World War II draft as a resident of Winfield, New Jersey. He gave his name as Oscar Theodore Bodine, born 15 Aug 1889 in Stockholm, Sweden and employed by the Federal Ship Bldg. and Drydock Co. His next of kin was his wife, Mrs. O. T. Bodine.

SHREWSBURY TOWNSHIP - Mrs. Oscar Bodine, 26 Barker Ave., was feted at a surprise party on the occasion of hen 80th birthday. The party, given by her friends, was held in the home of Mrs. Thomas Farley, 42 Pemberton Ave.,Oceanport. Completing the surprise of the day was a telephone call from her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Einar Bodine in Milpitas, Calif.; and her two granddaughters, Mrs. Robert Hartly, San Jose, Calif, and Mrs. Douglas Nelson, Santa Cruz, Calif., and her two year-old great-granddaughter Diana Hartly. The guests included Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Fritz, Scotch Plains; Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Renz and Mrs. Edwin Smithouser, Winfield; Mrs. Max Thomsen, Jersey City; Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Smith, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Palombo and Mrs. Thomas Farley, all of Oceanport.
