Memorial services for Bertha Orvetta Bodine, a former president of the Sons and Daughters of Oregon Pioneers, will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday in the First Presbyterian Church. Private interment will be in an Albany cemetery. Miss Bodine died Monday in a Portland hospital. She was 78. She was born near Albany on the homestead farm of her paternal grandfather, Daniel Bodine, who crossed the Plains in 1852 from Indiana. She received a degree in 1927 from the University of Oregon, majoring in English and mathematics. She was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. She taught school briefly, then worked for 12 yeas for Woodson Motors in Toledo. She then joined Barnard Motors where she rose to become secretary-treasurer in a 35-year career. She was an elder of the First Presbyterian Church and active in church affairs. She was a past president of the Business and Professional Women's Club of Portland and the Zonta Club of Portland. She was a member of the Vernon Rebekah Lodge 219 and of Phi Chi Theta, Phi Lamba Theta and Phi Mu Sorority. She is survived by one sister, Dorothy Peck of Portland.
