In June 1900, Stephen and Elsie Murray lived in Middletown, Orange County where Stephen worked as a day laborer. He reported having been married 25 years and that his wife had borne 4 children of whom 2 were yet living.

Stephen Murray, an aged and respected resident of this city, died at his residence, 5 Monhagen avenue, this morning at 8:15, after an illness of three weeks of bronchial pneumonia. Mr. Murray was born in County Down, Ireland, on November 25, 1834, the son of John Murray and Mary Smith. When a young man of about 16 years, he came to this country and made his home for a number of years with an uncle in Canada. Later he removed to this city, where he had since made his home, being employed on various Jobs throughout the city. On December 4, 1872, he was united in marriage to Miss Elsie Ann Bodine, at her home in the town of Wallklll, by Rev. Ezra Brown Pierce. They made their home in this city, where Mrs. Murray died on February 10, 1908. Mr. Murray was a member of St. Paul's M. E. Church and was a man who enjoyed the respect and esteem of all who knew him. He is survived by two daughters, Miss Louise B., and Miss Emma B., both of this clty. The funeral services will be held
at the late residence on Wednesday afternoon at 2:30, and the interment will be in the family plot in Hillside Cemetery
