James Allen Waltman, 95, of Lufkin, was born September 6, 1916 in Burke, Texas. He was the middle child of 3 children born to Walter and Icie Waltman. He passed away Tuesday, June 26, 2012 at his residence. Mr. Waltman attended Massey Business College in Beaumont, Texas. He went to work for H & N T Motor Freight Lines in Houston, Texas. The company was purchased by Merchants Freight Lines and he retired from there at age 62. Mr. Waltman's life was family, church, and baseball. He played semi-pro baseball in Houston. When he was no longer able to play, he began a career in umpiring that lasted over 50 years. He loved the Houston Astros and never missed a game on radio or TV. Mr. Waltman loved to travel and seek new things to learn. Never one to sit idle, he raised a garden until his health prevented him from working. Always one to help others, he mowed yards for several widow ladies until he could no longer ride his mower. Mr. Waltman was a member of Denman Avenue Baptist Church. His life will live on here and in eternity. Survivors include his wife, Marcie Waltman; son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Sue Waltman; daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Gary Graham; daughter, Cynthia Foote; sister, Janice Vaughn; grandsons, Jason Waltman and wife Kristy, Judson Waltman and wife Dwana; and John Michael Graham; granddaughters, Brandie Peoples and husband Kevin, Kimberly Graham, Leslie Graham and Jennifer Jones and husband Warren; great-granddaughters, Ellie Waltman and Meredith Waltman; great-grandsons, Jackson Waltman, Kaden Peoples, and Daniel Jones; stepchildren, Linda Manz and husband Bob, Myra Morgan and husband Eddie, and Ralph and Bea Athey; step grandchildren, Stanley and Tracie Buck, Wesley Manz, Joshua Morgan, Caleb Morgan, Tyler Athey; step great-grandchildren, Thomas Newton, Stacie Buck, Nadine Manz, and Anthony Manz; brothers-in-law, Jessie Forrest and wife Betty and Garland Forrest; sisters-in-law, Nona Cartwright, Emily Stanbery, and Lou Blankenship and husband Doug; and a number of other family members and friends. In addition to his parents, Mr. Waltman was preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law, Cleveland and Imogene Waltman; Lou Berdine Waltman; and step great-grandchild, Daniel Allen Buck. Pallbearers will be Jason Waltman, Judson Waltman, Stanley Buck, Eddie Morgan, George Rowe, and Dwan Coleman. Honorary pallbearers will be Jessie Forrest, Doug Blankenship, John Graham; and the Kingsman Sunday School Class of Denman Avenue Baptist Church, of which he was a member. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mr. Waltman's memory may be made to Hospice in the Pines, 1504 W. Frank Avenue, Lufkin, Texas 75904. The family wishes to express special thanks to everyone at Hospice in the Pines, whose love and help made Mr. Waltman's last days as bearable as possible. Services for Mr. Waltman will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 29, 2012 in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel, with Bro. Charles Roberts and Bro. Jeff Moats officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening at Gipson Funeral Home.
