Obituary, The Newburgh (NY) Register of Wednesday, 22 Jan 1902.
A dispatch received by Undertaker Wm. W. Terwilliger this morning announces the death at New York City of Capt. James H. Wise, a former resident of this city. Capt. Wise was for many years station and baggage agent at Salisbury Mills, on the Erie road. His home was at the corner of South and Lander streets. He was among the first to build a summer home at Belmar, below Ocean Grove, where for many years he passed his summer seasons with his family. He left Newburgh about eight years ago. The remains will arrive here at noon Friday and be taken at once to Bethlehem cemetery, where they will be laid at rest, in the family plot. He leaves a widow, two daughters and a son.

The will of James H. Wise of Newburgh, Orange County, New York of 13 Aug 1889, names as sole heir his wife Elthea and mentions "my children." She and Augustus Demiston are appointed executors. A codicil of 6 Jan 1890 revokes Demiston as executor and a 2nd codicil of 6 April 1899 makes a bequest to his sister. Proved 4 Feb 1902. [Orange County Wills, 70: 421]
