Ralph Bodine, 71, of 830 Jamaica Road, died at Ellis Hospital after being stricken at home Friday. Born in Michigan, Mr. Bodine came to Schenectady from Detroit in 1936. He was a graduate of the University of Michigan with a degree in electrical engineering. He worked for 38 years for the General Electric Co. in the motor and generator department, retiring in 1974. He is survived by his wife, Nina Walker Bodine, a son, Norman Bodine of Birmingham, Mich., four daughters, Mrs. Jane Williams of Providence, R.I., Mrs. Sarah DiTondo of Cherry Creek, Mrs. Anne Curtin of Ridgewood, N.J. and Mrs. Rita Wade of Westfield, N.J.; a brother, Norman Bodine of Birmingham; and nine grandchildren. A private memorial service will be held. There are no calling hours. Arrangements are by the Baxter Funeral Home.

Ralph B. Bodine was a 1936 graduate of the University of Michigan. In 2005, his son, Norman R. Bodine (class of 1964) and United Technologies established the Ralph B. Bodine Scholarship through the University of Michigan Physics Department for undergraduate physics students at the University of Michigan.

Nina Bodine died peacefully in her family's care in Cape May Point, NJ on December 1, 2011. Born on November 3, 1916 in Patoka, Illinois, she was the daughter of Isaac Isaiah and Mary Lucas Walker. She and her late husband, Ralph Benjamin Bodine lived in Schenectady, NY. Known to her grandchildren as Mio, she is survived by her son, daughters and their spouses, Norman and Danielle Bodine, Jane and John Williams, Sarah and John DiTondo, Anne and Michael Curtin, and Rita and Dennis Wade; grandchildren, Joel Bodine, Nina Weiss, Kurt Stein, Sarah Williams, Rita and Jeffrey DiTondo, Matthew and Alison Curtin, Tom, Kate, and Jim Wade; and two great-grandchildren, Adele DiTondo and Moses Weiss. She was predeceased by her grandson, Peter Curtin. Funeral arrangements are private.
