Obituary, Santa Ynez Valley News (Solvanh, CA) of Friday, 4 Aug 1939.
Roy Bodine, expert machinist and a resident of Buellton since 1922, was found dead in his garage at his home in Buellton Monday afternoon by relatives who investigated when Bodine failed to answer their call. According to a report made by Deputy Coroner Termann Paaske, Bodine's death was accidental, caused by monoxide gas. He had been dead since Sunday morning, it was reported. Mr. Bodine had been working on his automobile in his garage and had sat down inside it apparently to smoke a few minutes. He had taken the precaution to connect a hose fro the exhaust out through a hole in the garage door. Apparently the hose, in some unexplained manner, became disconnected from the car exhaust, and the fumes poured inside the garage.
Royal A. Bodine was born May 12, 1886, in Chicago, Ill., and came to Buellton from Pittsburgh in 1922. He took an active interest in all civic affairs, and was a conscientious worker and loyal to a host of friends, by whome he will be greatly missed. The deceased was unmarried, and is survived by a brother, A. G. Bodine of Buellton; and two sisters, Mrs. Emma Buell, Buellton, and Mrs. Harry Taylot, Columbus, Ohio, the latter being unable to attend the funeral due to illness. An uncle, Wm. Brown of Santa Barbara, an aunt, Mrs. Emma Gray of Bakersfield, and several nieces and nephews also survive. His mother, to whom he was unusually devoted, passed away three years ago at this time. Funeral services took place yesterday (Thursday) at 2:30 p.m. from the Panske Funeral Chapel, with interment following in Oak Hill cemetery. Rev. J. H. Willhoit officiated at the service, and pallbearers were R. J. Batty, Holger Lauritzen, Milton Risse, Frank Taddini, George Scheidt and Chas. Harrington.

Burials in Oak Hill Cemetery, Ballard, Santa Barbara County, California.
