Richard C. Bodine, 71, of Bridgeton, passed away unexpectedly on Monday evening March 5, 2018 at home. Born in Bridgeton, he was the son of the late Walter B. Bodine Sr. and the late Geneva A. Bodine (nee Stepp). He was a graduate of Bridgeton High School Class of 1966. During the Vietnam War, Richard served in the U.S. Army in Korea as a forward observer. He was honorably discharged holding the rank of sergeant. He was a shift supervisor for West Company in Millville, a job he held for over 22 years. Richard was a devoted Christian and enjoyed reading his Bible and attending services at Berean Baptist Temple in Bridgeton. He was a past member of the Millville Wesleyan Church where he played trumpet. He was an avid Bridgeton High School athletics fan; "BULL-DOGS! BULL-DOGS!; and a Philadelphia Eagles fan. He loved coaching youth sports and umpiring. Richard also enjoyed being the "taxi driver" for area youths as they attended training and games. He was a member of the Millville Slow Pitch Soft Ball League and the Bodine's Catering Softball Team. He was also a member of the Meade-Woodward VFW Post #1795 in Bridgeton. Above all else, he will be remembered as a generous man who loved being with his family. He is survived by two sons, Richard P. Bodine of Upper Deerfield Twp. and Andrew Bodine of Bridgeton, four grandchildren, Richard B. Bodine, Jack A. Bodine, Evan R. Bodine and Drew P. Bodine, two sisters, Carol Tanimae (Tarmo) of Oveido, FL and Brenda Hewitt (Gary) of Upper Deerfield Twp. and nieces and nephews, Brent K. Bodine (Teri), Faith N. Bodine, Brandon Tanimae, Lindsey Dembkoski, Melissa Hitchner, Michael Hewitt and Matthew Hewitt. He is also survived by his former wife of 38 years, Mariann Bodine (nee Kenney). In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Walter B. Bodine Jr. in 2011. Friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Saturday afternoon March 10, 2018 at 3 o'clock at the Berean Baptist Temple on Fayette Street in Bridgeton with Rev. Kenneth Scovell officiating. The interment of cremated remains will take place at the Cumberland County Veterans Cemetery in Hopewell Township at the family convenience. Friends will be received at the church between 2 and 3 on Saturday afternoon. An Irish Wake will take place following the service at 4:15 P.M. at 100 Sentry Drive, Bridgeton. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made in Richard's memory to the Bridgeton Track Alumni Association, 73 Spring Street, Bridgeton, NJ 08302.
