Notes for: William (Francis?) Wycliffe
Marshall Plantagenet, in The History of Yorkshire: Wapentake of West Gilling in the genealogy of the Wycliffes at Gayles (p. 157), is the only resource I've so far to list a Francis as a son of John Wycliffe and Margaret Lawson. I don't know, but maybe Plantagenet confused this Francis with his brother John's son also named Francis. We'll go with this for now - but realizing that it could be an error.
Plantagenet says this Francis Wycliffe of Gayles paid the subsidy, 14 James I.
I later found the will of John Lawson in Publications of the Surtees Society (1860, v. 38). John Lawson is Margaret Lawson's brother. He mentions two sons of John and Margaret: John and William Wycliffe. John seems to be the older of the two since he is given priority in the will over William. Both John and William are under 21 years of age. No Francis is mentioned. I am going to assume that the info above naming this son as Francis was a mistake and this Francis should be named William.
