Notes for: Henry Wickliffe
He left his estate to a negro woman and her eight mulatto children.
Here is some info from A. L. Kennedy from the Wickliffe pages at Genforum:
I don't know if this will help you or not, as I'm not sure how far back your generations go. I do know of the following African-American connection in the Wickliffe family. Anne Wickliffe of Westmoreland Co., VA m. John Washington abt 1690. Anne's brother Henry lived with her, and when he died, he specified in his will that she was to free two mulatto slave boys named Hugo and Jimmy, sons of her slave Black Betty, and use money from his accounts to purchase two slaves to replace them. Jimmy was to be educated, and both boys were to be free at age 21 and each receive a horse at that time. The rest of his estate was to be used for the benefit of Betty and her other children, Frank, Nelly, Peggy, Betty, Molly and Rachel. I don't know if those provisions of his will were ever carried out. I'm afraid I don't know anything more about what happened to them after that, as I've never found any further reference in the records.
