Col. Roy L. Bodine, Jr. died at home on May 17, 2005 at the age of 94. He was born in Indianapolis and graduated from U of Iowa College of Dentistry. After joining the army he was stationed to the Philippines in 1939. He survived the Bataan Death March, the Hell Ships to Japan, and 41 months as a POW. Throughout his captivity he kept a diary which was used as evidence in war crimes trials after WWII. He was liberated from labor camp in Korea one month after VJ Day and was awarded the Silver Star for his evacuation efforts under fire on Bataan and Corregidor. After WWII he was given his choice of stations and chose San Antonio. In 1950 he began research and development in implant dentistry, while continuing a distinguished army dental career. He retired from the army in 1961 as Dental Surgeon for U.S. Army Hawaii and U.S. Army Pacific. He then became Professor of Prosthodontics at U of Puerto Rico for 10 years and at U of Southern California for another 10 years. After his final retirement in 1981 he began square dancing and competitive swimming, moving back to San Antonio in 1980. He was preceded in death by Monica, his wife of 49 years; Ruth, wife of one year; Dorothy, wife of 15 years; and brother, Col. Donald Bodine. He is survived by Regina, his wife of 4 years, two daughters, 7 grandchildren, three-and-a-half-great-grandchildren. SERVICES A Memorial Mass will be held at 5:00 PM on Friday, May 27, 2005 at the Air Force Village I. Visitation will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Friday - May 27, 2005 at Mission Park Funeral Chapels North with a rosary to be recited at 7:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday - May 28, 2005 at the funeral home chapel. Regina Marie Korus Cotter Bodine. Regina Bodine, 99, passed to the loving arms of Jesus on September 3, 2021. She was a native San Antonian, born August 25, 1922, to Frank S Korus and Matylda Padalecki Korus. Regina graduated from Brackenridge High School in 1940 as valedictorian. She inherited her love of the land from her father, Frank Korus. For many years she was a member of the office team at Orville Carr Associates. She is survived by two children, Cathleen (David) McClure of San Antonio and Carolyn (Chuck) Roberts of Port Lavaca, sister, Lorraine Haglund of Devine, nephews Donald Haglund of Hondo, Alvin Korus of Bigfoot, Nathan Korus of Saginaw, Danial Korus of Corpus Christi, seven grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands: Gerald G Cotter, Tommy Parr, Col. Roy Bodine, and brothers: Louis Korus and Edward Korus. Rosary will be Sunday, September 19, at 5:00 P.M. at The Angelus Chapel. Funeral Mass to be offered at 10:00 A.M. at Little Flower Basilica.
