W. G. Henry, of 588 Teasdale Place, New York City, is a guest of his nephew, W. H. Bodine, of 40 Mill street, this city. Mr. Henry is a former resident of this city, having resided here before the outbreak of the Civil War, and for several years after that war. At the outbreak of the war, Mr. Henry, who had had previous experience in sailing vessels, enlisted in the United States Navy, and was assigned to the S. S. Sumter. While on this vessel he took part in the engagement at Fort Sumter, and also in the bombardment of Fort Pulaski. He was later transferred to the S.S. Wyandotte, of the North American squadron, under Admiral Lee, and later Admiral Porter. While on duty with this vessel, he was taken ill, and was under the doctor's care for six months. He then went to Washington, and made application for promotion to the Secretary of the Navy, and after successfully passing an examination, was promoted to Master, and assigned in charge of the Wyandotte. At the conclusion of the war, he was granted a six months' leave of absence, and at the expiration of this time, was given an honorable discharge. He returned to this city, and was employed as a baggage master on the Erie, and several years later removed to New York, where he has resided since. Mr. Henry was united in marriage a number of years ago to Miss Mary Bodine, of this city, who died about fifteen years ago.

Children: John (c1862), Alice (c1864).
