Barbara M. Gervais of Akron, Ohio, died 2 May 1964 in Akron, Summit County aged 43.

Laurence E. Gervais, age 98, passed away on Saturday, May 9, 2015. He will be mourned by his loving family and many friends. Mr. Gervais was preceded in death in 1964 by Barbara, his wife of 22 years; and in 2007 by Mary, his wife of 40 years. He was also preceded in death by his brother, sisters and their spouses. He is survived by his two daughters, Barbaranne Mitchell (Steven) and Angela Gervais (William Hunter); two grandchildren, Melissa Lentz (John) and Scott Mitchell (Ashley); and six great-grandchildren, Scott, Emily, Carter, Sarah Beth, Maddie and Jack. He was cherished by his devoted family and will be greatly missed by them. Laurence was born October 19, 1916, and grew up in Tracy, Minnesota. He attended the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. His active business career brought transfers to several states, then to Akron from Chicago in 1954. After a 23 year career at Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., he retired in 1978. Laurence was a veteran of World War II. Following his induction and military training in the U.S. Army, he was commissioned an officer and appointed as an instructor at the Officers' School in Fort Benning, Ga., after which he served in the Asiatic-Pacific theater. He was awarded the Philippine Liberation Medal and three Combat Star medals. He was transferred back to resume civilian life the U.S. in 1946. Laurence was a member of St. Hilary Catholic Church for many years. He was active in several community services including United Way for which he received the Albrecht Award for achievements. He was Associate Chairman of the early Fairlawn Veterans Memorial Commission, a former member of the Fairlawn Optimist Club, Past Chairman of the Fairlawn Charter Review Committee, and active in many other civic projects. He was a continuing member of the Ohio American Legion, and also a long-time member of the U.S. Veterans of Foreign Wars, a charter member and officer of Fairlawn VFW Post #349, and honored with three VFW achievement awards. Visitation will be 4 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, May 12 at Ciriello & Carr Funeral Home, 39 S. Miller Rd., Fairlawn, OH 44333. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 13 at St. Hilary Catholic Church, 2750 W. Market St., Fairlawn, OH 44333, with Reverend Steven Brunovsky celebrating. Interment will be at Rose Hill Burial Park with full Military Honors. For those who wish, memorial remembrances may be made to St. Hilary Church or to a charity of personal preference.
