Report of the marriage on 2 Dec 1909 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Bodine of Ash Rock, of their daughter Mabel, to Mr. Oscar Vanderlip by Rev. Woodcock of Alton in the presence of Misses Eva and Geneva Bodine.
On 5 June 1917, Oscar Herbert Vanderlip registered for the World War 1 draft in Ash Rock, Rooks County. He reported he was born 3 Dec 1888 in Woodston, Rooks County, was married with two children and worked as a farmer. Oscar and Mable Vanderlip lived 1910-1930 Ash Rock, Rooks County engaged in farming and 1940 in Manhattan, Riley County.

Oscar Vanderlip, 56, died suddenly of a heart attack at 6 p.m. Saturday, while working in his grocery store, 920 Kearney. He had been busy at the store all day and had not complained of feeling ill, his family said. Besides his wife, Mrs. Mabel Vanderlip, survivors include two sons and two daughters, Lawrence Vanderlip, Whitehouse, N.J., Herbert Vanderlip, in the army, stationed in Baltimore, Md., Mrs. Moyne Yoxall, Van Nuys, Calif., and Mrs. Martha Reynard, Manhattan. His mother, Mrs. Sadie Vanderlip, lives at Woodston, and his wife's mother, Mrs. Rosa Bodine, resides at the Vanderlip home.

NEWTON---Mrs. Mabel M. Vanderlip, 79, died Monday in a Newton hospital. She was a resident of the Presbyterian Manor since April 1970 and formerly of Wichita. She lived in Manhattan from 1936 to 1959. She was married to Oscar Vanderlip who died in 1945. Survivors include one son, Herbert D. Vanderlip, Wichita; two daughters, Mrs. R. E. Yoxall, Granada Hills, Calif., and Mrs. L. M. Reynard, 2015 Casement Road; one brother, I. H. Bodine, Englewood, Colo.; two sisters, Mrs. Neva Henley, Raytown, Mo., and Mrs. Hettie Elder, Spokane, Wash.; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Laurence, who died in 1963. Services will be at 9:30 a.m., Thursday in the Draper-Cannon Chapel, Newton. Graveside services will be at the Ash Rock Cemetery, Rooks County, at 3:30 p.m. Thursday. She was a member of the First Congregational Church, Manhattan.
