L. Penn Owens was founder and president of Owens, Inc., which began as a Rockford women's apparal shop in 1925 and expanded to include men's clothing, until March 1973 when he sold the company. Loyd and Florence Owens were divorced in Little Rock, Arkansas in December 1960.

ROCKFORD - Florence E. Owens, 101, of Rockford died at 7:50 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 24, 2001, in Fairhaven Christian Retirement Center. Born Dec. 17, 1899, in Rockford daughter of Frank J. and Emily C. Klingwall Bodine. A lifelong Rockford resident. Member of Second Congregational Church, where she was a member of the Freeman Circle and Helen Cleaveland Circle. She was also a 50-year member of Rockford Woman's Club and for many years a member of Pastor Elmer Sandberg's Bible class. No survivors. Special friends Virginia and Roland Carlson and Capitola Linder. Predeceased by her parents and sister, Mabel V. Bodine. Funeral services will be private, with the Rev. Haines Moffat officiating.
