Henry B. Bodine came to Brindlee Mountain when he was married. He settled at Fry where he bought a land patent for 400 dollars and later sold it. He went to Shoal Creek and entered a homestead. He sold that and bought land in S 21 TS7 R2e. He farmed, was a road overseer, and operated a grocery store across the road from his home. He sold his land to his sons and moved to Grassy where he operated a grocery and rented his land on shares. Eighty acres of land is still in the Bodine family. The grand-children own it. He talked in a long slow drawl.
He bought eight acres of land in the Crossroads beat near Guntersville, Alabama in about 1900. A copy of the deed has been located and there is an interesting item that may shed light on his daughter named Minnie (per the 1900 Marshall County, Alabama, Census). Since this information was found, and since his brother Williamson Cobb Bodine had a daughter named Minnie, they must have changed Minnie's name to Ila Savannah so as not to have his brother's daughter with the same name. Thomas Bodine of Boaz, Alabama, has in his possession, a copy of the family record from their old Bible and Minnie's name is not there.
Mary would card cotton and spin it into thread. Then a rough cloth was made from the thread and a lot of shirts and pants were then made. Sometimes she would take wool and make rugs or shawls. She walked with a limp caused by a fall sometime in the early 1920's that damaged her foot.
Birth and death dates come from RB. I did have a birth date of October 12 and a death date of December 19, but I had no primary sources for that.
From Ronny Bodine:
Henry and Mary Bodine were buried in Brashier's Cemetery, near Arab, Marshall County. In the Marshall County censuses of 1870-1930 Henry Bodine reported his occupation as farmer but at various times during his life he owned and operated grocery stores.
