On 5 June 1918, James Sylvester Bodine registered for the World War 1 draft in San Francisco, California. He reported he was born 27 Sept 1894 (as opposed to Sept 1892 in 1900) in Cincinnati, Ohio, was single, and was employed as the operator of a lunch wagon.

In 1930, Sylvester and Runa Bodine lived in San Francisco as proprietors of a restaurant.

Funeral services Friday morning 10 o'clock at the mortuary of Halsted & Co., 1133 Sutter st., near Polk, under the auspices of Mount Vernon Lodge No. 517, F. & A. M. Interment, Golden Gate National Cemetery.
