Notes for: Hilmer Bodine

From Ronny Bodine (August 27, 2020):

In 1900, Hilmer Bodine, age 18 and single, and Charles Bodine, age 14, lived with Charles and Cathren Candee in Easton, Fairfield County, Connecticut where he worked as a farm laborer.

On 18 July 1902, the case of Hayes v. Candee was heard before the Supreme Court of Errors of Connecticut, wherein Mary B. Spencer, a woman of diminished capacity was encouraged in Aug 1898 to give a piece of land to Hilmer Bodine, a minor in employ of the Candee family, which land was then deeded to Bodine. Charles W. Candee was then appointed guardian of Bodine in Sept 1898 and sold the land.

The 1907 Bridgeport Directory shows Hilmer and Charles Bodine both living at 1802 State and employed by the G Manufacturing & machine Company. Their brother Herbert Bodine lived at 1802 State. He last appears in the 1909 Bridgeport Directory as an employee of the G Manufacturing & Machine Company and residing at 1802 State. He is not listed in the 1910 directory and did not register for the World War I draft. One must therefore conclude that he died in 1909-1910.
