John James Bodine was born 15 Sept 1934 in Oklahoma County.

John James Bodine, 63, a former university associate dean, department chairman and anthropology professor at American University, died Aug. 5 at his home in Taos, N.M., after a heart attack. He came to Washington and joined the American University faculty in 1968 as an associate professor. He was chairman of the Anthropology Department from 1972 to 1975 and was university associate dean for graduate studies from 1979 to 1986. He retired from the university as a full professor in 1995. Dr. Bodine, a native of New Mexico, was a graduate of Tulane University, where he also received a doctorate in anthropology. Before coming to Washington, he was an assistant museum curator in Milwaukee, where he also taught anthropology and served as department chairman at Marquette University. In New Mexico, where he returned in retirement, he was active in the return of pueblo lands and wrote a guidebook on the Taos Pueblo. His companion, Malcolm Wood, died in 1995. He leaves no immediate survivors.
