Notes for: Russell Garland Bodine

From Ronny Bodine:

On 12 Sept 1918, Russell Garland Bodine registered for the World War I draft in Howard, Elk County, Kansas. He reported he was a farmer and named his mother, Emma Bodine, of Longton, Elk County, as his next of kin. In 1920, Russell Bodine was widowed and living with his mother in Longton, Elk County.

1st marriage-1924-SARAH E. RICHARDSON.
From Jackson County, Missouri Marriage Records:
Russell G. Bodine, 45, of Kansas City, KS AND Sarah E. Sexton, 43, of Longton, Elk County, KS were married 22 Sept 1924. [Note: Sarah was previously married to J. J. Sexton about 1904, probably in Elk County, Kansas. When Sarah's son, Leonard Earl Sexton (1914-2000) applied for his SSN in 1936, he named his parents Joseph J. and Sarah E. (Richardson) Sexton. She is likely identical with the Sarah Richardson, born June 1881 in Texas, dau. of Joseph & Elizabeth Richardson, living 1900 in Oak Valley, Elk County, Kansas.]

1925 Kansas City, Wyandotte Co., KS: R. G. BODINE 46 MO drug store clerk, S. E. 43 TX wife, Leonard SEXTON 10 KS son.

In 1930, Russell Bodine, a widower, operated a cafe in Kansas City, Jackson County, Missouri.

1940 Kansas City, Jackson Co., MO: Russell BODINE 62 MO divorced manager-restaurant, William 58 MO clerk-retail drug store single

Although Russell Bodine claimed in 1930 he was a widower, he was actually divorced, as noted in the 1940 census, as in 1940, Leonard Earl Sexton, Sarah's son, named his mother, Mrs. S. E. Sexton of El Dorado, Union Co., Arkansas as his next of kin. She is listed as Mrs. Sarah E. Sexton in the 1943 El Dorado City Directory. She is not listed in the 1946 directory, but her son Leonard is. It would appear she died between 1943 and 1946, but she is not listed in the Arkansas death records.

In 1942, as a resident of the Tanner Hotel in Kansas City, Missouri, Russell Garland Bodine registered for the World War II Draft. He reported he was born 22 Oct 1878 in Hannibal, Missouri and was employed by the South Side Bus Station. He named W. M. Bodine as his next of kin.
