The obituary of Donald L. Franz, 80, son of Herman C. and Mary E. (Fast) Franz, names among his survivors a sister, Betty Jean Bodine.

Obituary, Mt. Moriah, Newcomer and Freeman Funeral Home & Mount Moriah Cemetery South, Kansas City, MO.
Betty Jean (Franz) Bodine, 97, died April 28, 2024 at the Bethesda Home in Goessel. Betty was born in Liberal, KS, to Herman and Mary Ellen (Fast) Franz on May 22, 1926. She grew up on a farm north of Halstead, KS with her twin sister, Mary Lou and younger brother, Don and enjoyed riding bareback on her horse. She attended the Halstead schools and graduated in 1948 from Bethel College in North Newton, KS with a business degree. She married Carl Edwin Bodine (Ed) on September 6, 1958 at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Kansas City, Missouri, and moved to Mission, KS, where they lived for almost 50 years. Betty was a CPA accountant and was busy during tax season preparing people's tax returns. While Betty's sister, Mary Lou (Franz) Duerksen and her husband, Dr. Joseph Duerksen served as missionaries with MCC, Betty was instrumental in helping maintain communication between the church, friends and family as the Duerksen family served two mission terms in India. She attended Hillcrest Covenant Church until her husband passed away and then joined her twin sister and brother-in-law at Rainbow Mennonite Church. She was a firm believer in the love of God and a faithful follower of Jesus Christ. Upon failing health, Betty moved to Bethesda Home in Goessel, KS where she was a friend to everyone. She would greet those passing her door with a wave and a smile. Betty is preceded in death by her husband, Ed and their only child, Diane. Survivors include 3 nieces and 3 nephews. A memorial service will be held this summer at the Rainbow Mennonite Church in Kansas City, KS.
