Obituary, The Enterprise (Brocton, Mass.) of 12 Feb 2016.
James R. Bodine, age 93, of Plymouth, formerly of Gladstone, N.J., died peacefully in his home Tuesday, February 9. He was the son of the late John L. and Hazel (Brown) Bodine and devoted husband of 67 years to the late Elizabeth Matthews Bodine. James was the loving father of Nancy Bodine of Powhatan, Va., Patricia Bodine of Plymouth, and Barbara Ryan of Plymouth. He was the cherished grandfather of Daniel Ryan of E. Greenwich, R.I., and Matthew Ryan of Boston. James grew up in Gladstone, N.J., and graduated from Bernards High School in Bernardsville, N.J. He attended Dartmouth College in Hanover, N.H., until he joined the U.S. Air Force in February, 1943. First Lieutenant James R. Bodine served as a bombardier during World War II in Italy until June of 1945. Among the medals he was awarded were the Purple Heart and the Distinguished Flying Cross. After serving his country, he returned to Dartmouth College and graduated in February, 1946 (class of 1944). After a long career in the pharmaceutical industry, James retired in 1987 as President of Janssen Pharmaceutica and Vice President of Janssen International, both divisions of Johnson & Johnson. After retiring, he and his wife, Elizabeth, moved to Plymouth, where he enjoyed golf with good friends, loyally watched every Dartmouth College game on the computer and spent baseball season cheering on his much loved St. Louis Cardinals. His greatest joy, however, was attending his two grandsons sports events. He was their biggest and most devoted fan. James will be remembered in his family's hearts as a caring husband, loving father, cherished grandfather, dear friend and true gentleman. His guidance, wisdom and wonderfully dry sense of humor will be forever missed. A private graveside service will be held on Saturday, February 13. In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation in his name may be made to the American Heart Association . For more info and online guest book, please visit www.cartmelldavis.com.
