Before committing suicide, Thurston Bodine shot his two sons. Mark survived, but as a quadriplegic when the gunshots severed his spine and left him with brain damage.

MARK D. BODINE, 45, of NEPTUNE CITY, died Thursday, April 20, at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. He was a 30-year member of the Old First United Methodist Church, West Long Branch. He was a graduate of Shore Regional High School and enjoyed attending class reunions. He was an accomplished artist and sold out showings in Long Branch and Atlantic City. He was a sole survivor of a domestic violence incident and was predeceased by his father, mother, brother, grandfather, and his housekeeper, Marge. Surviving are his adoptive father, Sandy Birenbaum; and a wonderful circle of friends, including the "Desperate Housewives" at the Medicenter. Visitation will be 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Woolley Funeral Home, 10 Morrell St. at Broadway, Long Branch. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday from the funeral home.
