Shirley Ann Bodine 4/10/35 - 6/12/14
Shirley lost her fight with lung cancer and passed over surrounded by love and peace at her home in Veneta, Oregon. She was an extraordinary woman and caring Mother who loved hanging out, laughing and telling stories. She was always up for a good game of Yatzee - "toot toot" Mom! She loved visits from her children, playing Bunco with the Red Hats, cribbage with her friend Robert, going to garage sells with her brother Lloyd, and lunches and shopping with her sister Betty. In her early years, she enjoyed western dancing and water skiing. She was a member of the Applegate Lions Club and the Red Hat Rowdy Chicks of Veneta. Prior to moving to Oregon, she was a member of the Camp Nelson Search and Rescue Team and a volunteer ambulance driver. Shirley was an incredible artist, painting on saw blades, winning awards with her quilts and doing crafts of many kinds. She loved critters and her beloved dogs were never far away when she was tending to her beautiful gardens. Her smile, energy, laughter, and sense of humor will be missed. Shirley is survived by her children: Elberta Hames of Los Molinas, CA; Shirley "Tina" Smart of Monterey, CA: Margaret "Margi" Perotti of Carmel Valley, CA; Eugene "Mike" Perotti and wife Jackie of Springfield, OR; Jon Paul Martindale of Brownsville, OR; Sean Poland and wife Valerie of Monterey, CA; and by her siblings Lloyd Hawkins and Dorris of Veneta, OR; Betty and Terry Robinette of Camp Creek, OR: Fred and Stacey Hawkins of Los Molinas, CA; and Lila and Charlie Brown. She has 10 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren, and many special nieces and nephews. Proceeded by her parents Lloyd and Alberta Hawkins; husband Robert Bodine (2000) and niece Jody Ward (2013). A celebration of her life will be held at the Veneta Community Center, 88184 8th St. on Saturday, July 26, 2014 from 12:00 noon to 2:00pm One of Mom's last request was that all the ladies wear red lipstick to the celebration.
