Appleton Post-Crescent (Appleton, Wisc.) of 17 Dec 1920.
Washburn, Wis.---The body of Private August Bodin of Houghton is expected to arrive here from France, and the funeral will be held in Ashland. His mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Bodin, now lives in Ashland, having moved to that city from her farm just north of here. A military funeral is being arranged, to be participated in by all former service men in this locality. August Bodin was a member of the Bayfield county company, organized by Capt. H. H. Peavey. He served with the military police and was killed in France in July, 1918, by a bursting shell while conveying prisoners from the front to detention camps. News of his death was received on the afternoon of a big Liberty loan drive. Shortly before the parade started, his mother was informed of the news. She took her place in the parade among
other mothers who had boys overseas.
