Funeral services for Florence Smith, 98, Pine Island, MN, formerly of Truman, MN will be held on Saturday, August 14th, 2004 at 11:00 am at Community Baptist Church, Truman, MN. Burial will be at the Nashville Cemetery, rural Truman. Mrs. Smith died Tuesday morning, August 10th, 2004 at the Pine Haven Nursing Home, Pine Island, MN. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services in the church Saturday. Florence Berdine was born on November 9, 1905 to Charles and Mary Belle Miller Berdine in Hancock Carthage County, Illinois. Florence attended country schools in Faribault County. She married Paul Smith on March 18th, 1925 in Fairmont at the Martin County Courthouse. They lived and farmed in Nashville Township for over 60 years. Paul died in February of 1988. Florence moved to the Cannon Falls, Red Wing area to be near relatives. She entered assisted living in Red Wing, MN in 1996 and later moved into the Pine Haven Nursing Home in Pine Island, MN in 2000. Florence was a member of Community Baptist Church, Truman and former member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed playing the piano and the violin. Florence is survived by one daughter, Florene Majerus and husband Robert of Cannon Falls, MN; two sons, Merlin Smith and wife Jean of Florissant, CO and Marion "Mike" Smith and wife Luella, Blaine, MN; 12 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; 8 great, great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers and two sisters. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the charity of the donor's choice.
